This is somewhat normal -these transmissions are heavy duty, transmit a lot of torque to the rear diff. In traffic, and or shifting at lower speeds, can be a bit clunky. However, shifting fast and at higher speeds, should be pretty smooth. WebThe front end should be replaced with energy suspension bushings and greasable ball joints. The front end needs to be inspected, but here are the usual suspects. Most to least 1. Stabilizer bushings to frame. Rattle and bump sound. Not too expensive. 2. Tension struts - radius arm as some may say.

WebNov 17, 2005 · I agree with offroader_dodge; most of the "clunk" is caused by the backlash between pinion and gear in the rear axle. Mine was set at twice the maximum allowed by the factory (but was set as such at the factory). I had two shops look at my '07 -- one of them being a dealer -- to find the source of the clunk. Both immediately went to the key suspension components -- control & tension arms.
